The Client

A $7 billion Hedge Fund is looking for an experienced Java Lead to take ownership as one of the founding engineers of a brand-new e-trading movement. As one of the most technology-oriented firms in America, this platform is being built from scratch using some of the most cutting-edge technologies on the market. They have just heavily invested $10 million within this core team to revolutionize the equities and fixed income space and assert themselves as the number 1 e-trading hedge fund in America.


The Role

Our client is seeking a passionate hands-on Java technologist to lead a brand-new highly focussed team, driving the build-out of their brand-new highly performant trading platforms. Full ownership of this project includes input into all stages of the product’s life cycle. The completely greenfield project will completely redesign their Equities and Fixed Income trading platforms, which sit on the core Alpha platform, underpinning the entire firm’s revenue generation. This project requires expert engineers with a key understanding of the financial markets and high levels of communication to drive the build-out of this highly performant platform.


Required

  • Expert proficiency in Java 11+.

  • Experience working on distributed systems

  • Experience of front office software and/or trading systems development e.g., in a hedge fund or investment bank.

  • Basic knowledge of at least one asset class

  • Solid SQL/RDBMS experience

  • Happy to develop and support all levels of the technology stack, including frontends, middleware, servers, and databases. This could potentially involve working with different languages

  • A proponent of agile methods: continuous integration, code review, unit testing, refactoring, and related approaches.

Advantageous

  • Expertise in building distributed systems with service-based or event-driven architectures, and concurrent processing.

  • Relevant mathematical knowledge e.g., statistics, asset pricing, time-series analysis optimisation algorithms.

  • Proficient in working on both Linux and Windows platforms.
